Our world is made up of complex systems and processes that have allowed our species to flourish. Operating in the background, these structures impact our everyday experiences and are often taken for granted. TEDxTexasStateUniversity’s 2023 theme will explore compleXity. Our talks will focus on identifying and navigating these complex systems and will explore and advocate for solutions to complex problems and challenges we face. The talks will represent a variety of fields and perspectives including technology, health, the arts, media, social sciences, the humanities, and the natural sciences. We invite you to join us for a day of inspiration and conversation as we discover what it means to be a citizen in this complex, global world.
Meet Your Event MCs
Johnny Angel Vasallo is an M.A. candidate in the Communication Studies program at Texas State University. He is a graduate instructional assistant for LBJ Debate and the Elbernathy Forensics Team. After graduation, Johnny plans to utilize the skills obtained from his communication degree to expand advocacy for the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities and will encourage the expansion of diversity training within educational programs.
Haley Bass is a Communication Studies major at Texas State University with minors in Philosophy and Political Communication. She works as a Student Support Services Tutor as well as a Texas State Comm Lab Public Speaking Instructor. After graduation, Haley plans to continue using the public speaking and advocacy skills she learned through debate by attending law school. Haley Bass and Johnny Vasallo met through competing on the Texas State Speech and Debate Team, and they've been friends ever since.
